What do you want your signs to do? An important question because it will dictate colour, design and budget. Maybe you want to attract new customers and make a really big impression. Or maybe you want to look solid, dependable and trustworthy, like a bank. Sometimes small and discreet is the best option, especially if you are offering a sensitive service. Maybe you just want to keep non customers out of your car parks that you pay good money for. At Award Signs we can cater for all of your signwriting needs and here you will find a few basic principles that all signs have in common. There are no rules, only ideas. |

|
||
| Design: What is
your business? Retail, funeral home, restaurant, accountant, lawyer, trade
service? The design that you end up with will have a great influence on
your customers. Obviously if you are a funeral home big, bold and flashy
is not a good option, whereas discreet signage with a solid, trustworthy
look would be far more appropriate where you would use timeless fonts such
as Times Roman. On the other hand, if you have a retail business selling
party supplies, then modern fonts combined with a modern trendy design
would be ideal. If you own a cafe/restaurant that opens day and night then
perhaps a more relaxing design and illuminated signs would be the best way
to go. Whatever your business it is important that you "look" the part. |
||
| Colour: Bright
colours such as yellow, red and orange stand out and are appropriate if
you want to be noticed. They look good for food outlets and businesses
with a bold image. Trendy colours are excellent for modern, busy cafe's,
whereas earthy colours are excellent for professional people. The choice
of colour has to be an integral part of what you are trying to achieve
with your signs and is critical to the overall design. |
||
| Personal Taste: All
of the above is subject to your own personal taste. After all, you are the
one that has to live with your signs everyday, so your tastes are
important. At Award Signs we work in with your requirements and your needs
as well as giving you our best professional advice. |
||
| Size: Size
matters. What looks big in the workshop can look lost in the middle of a
big real estate development. The object of any sign is to be seen,
otherwise there's no point in having them. Too often we see people walk
out of our workshop with signs far too small for what they want to
achieve. Unfortunately they think they have saved themselves a few dollars
but don't realise that it has cost them more money in lost revenue or
sales because the sign is not doing it's job properly. Sometimes small and
discreet is the best option because of the nature of your business. Big or
small, size is very important. |
||
| Materials and Substrates: The right choice in materials and substrates will dictate how long your sign will last, so have a look at the Sign Materials page for some really good advise. | ||
